100th Day of School!

Today was the 100th day of school at UMS!  We had a fabulous day full of 100! We read 100th day books, we wrote a newspaper article on being 100 years old, and we did a mystery number skype with Mrs. Davis' class.  We made a trail mix with 100 yummy pieces of food, and we completed a 100th day activity book! We had TONS of fun!!  Here are some pictures from our activities!

Our 100th Day books!

Writing our 100th day newspaper! We will publish a class book with these!

Skyping with Ms. LaRose and Ms. Warren's second grade classes from Porters Point School!

We are asking a good question to help us figure out their mystery number. (It was 64)

They guessed our number of 72!

Completing a 100 dot to dot.

Taking 100 steps around the room and marking our spot with tape.

Coloring 100th day crowns.

Making 100th day friendship trail mix.

Carefully counting out 10 treats from each bag.

Our serious picture..

Ending our day with some silliness!

Second Grade Research

We have been learning how to research on the Internet with Ms. Hebert. We've talked about using two different websites called Bookflix and PebbleGo, which can be accessed through my blog.  Here are the usernames and passwords for these sites as well as some pictures from our learning

Bookflix: username: us primary
              password: book flip

Homemade Hot Chocolate

Last Friday,  we made hot chocolate to enjoy at the end of our day. It was a decadent recipe and the kiddos loved it!  The photos don't do this drink justice!

Inside Out - The Movie

We will be watching the movie "Inside Out" on Monday, Dec. 21st with Mrs. Davis' class. It goes along perfectly with our guidance lessons.  Here is a quick note from Mr. Antonicci and Mrs. McCleary.

In guidance, students at UMS have been studying and learning about the zones of regulation.  As a fun way to connect to what they’ve learned so far classroom teachers will be showing the movie ‘Inside Out’ either the Monday or Tuesday before Christmas vacation.  This movie is rated PG.  Please let your child’s classroom teacher know if you have any concerns.  Also, if you are interested in reading the movie synopsis visit this link:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2096673/plotsummary

Gingerbread!

We have started one of my favorite units.....Gingerbread!!  We have been reading lots of Gingerbread folktales and then comparing them using a Venn diagram. We have started a chart in class and we are hoping to build our own foam gingerbread houses next Friday, Dec. 18th. We also have Gingerbread Fred visiting our classroom. Each night, Fred goes home with 2 different students and each student will journal about his/her experience with Fred. This is a magical time of year!

Cupcake Treat

We had a cupcake treat with some very bright green icing on a few weeks ago!! We found that the green icing could be very stubborn to get off and someone commented that we looked like zombies so we had to take a group picture!
