Comprehension Strategies - Visualizing

We have been working on a lot of different comprehension strategies throughout this year. We've worked on telling the story map (main character, setting, problem, and solution), character traits, main idea, finding evidence to support the main idea, inferring using clues from the story, and making connections.  During the last three weeks, we've worked on creating pictures in our mind as we read.  We've paid special attention to adjectives and feeling words to help form our pictures and we've listened for clues about the setting or other details that could enhance our understanding of the story. We used a fantastic poetry book to practice this skill.

These are our reading strategy posters hung up in our Book Nook.

We used a book called Yellow Elephant: A Bright Bestiary written by Julie Larios and illustrated by Julie Paschkis.
