Life in Alaska versusLife in Vermont

We have spent the last seven weeks learning about Alaska. We started learning about the Iditarod Dog Sled Race which starts in early March.  This race is an amazing feat of personal strength and endurance for the musher as well as his/her team of dogs. This race lasts at least a week and is full of excitement and challenges. After the race, we focused on Alaska's geographic location and how being so far north effects the weather, amount of sunlight, and the different ways that the animals and people survive. After learning about the people and animals of Alaska, we compared how living in Vermont is similar and different than living in Alaska.  This is such a fun Social Studies unit and the kids LOVED it!

One Eyed Pirates

I am so excited to be back! Since I've had some "eye work" done,  I thought it would be fun for the kids to see what it's like to only have one eye so everyone received a pirate patch and pirate hat today! Here's a picture of the Pirates in room 9!
