Four Winds - Bees!

Today we had a great Four Winds Science lesson on Bees! We learned all about the three types of bees - queen, worker, and drone.  We were able to take a close-up look at deceasedworker and drone bees with magnifying glasses.  We were fascinated that the worker bees have stingers but the drone bees don't. We also sampled some honey and honeycomb!  I'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Bevill for teaching these amazing science lessons all year!  Here are some pictures from our explorations!

UMS School Wide Celebration!!

The kids at UMS have been doing a fabulous job being safe, kind, and doing their best!!! They have filled 3 large bins with champ bands so today's school wide celebration was a bouncy slide!!!!  We had 20 minutes and the kids had a blast! It was really difficult to get an action picture of the kids, but here's a glimpse into our fun!

Chris Van Dusen

Today we had an exciting visit from children's author Chris Van Dusen!!  He is an author and illustrator of 9 children's hooks and he has illustrated numerous other books, posters, license plates, and pamphlets.  He was very entertaining and we loved hearing about his writing process!  Here are our pictures from this great presentation!

We all had our listening ears on!

He showed us a poster that he made for the Ringling Brother's Circus!

He did all of the illustrations for Kate DiCamillo's books "Mercy Watson", a big crowd favorite!

These are some of the books that he has illustrated and written.

A student tried to read one of Chris' titles in French!

These are the 9 books that Chris wrote and illustrated himself!

Here's an early sketch of what Mr. McGee looked like before Chris settled on his final drawing.
