Balto - The Movie

We've been studying all about the Iditarod Dog Sled Race that takes place in Alaska each year.  Balto is the dog credited with saving the town of Nome from a deadly outbreak of diphtheria.  He was the lead dog on the final dog sled team in the serum relay of 1925.  We read the book Balto and today we watched the Disney movie.  We compared the story to the movie. Here are some photos of our afternoon.

One Eyed Pirates!

I'm SO glad to be back!  To celebrate, everyone became a one-eyed pirate for the day! (I figured that this could be a fun way to experience what it's like to only have one eye! The students LOVED it and we've had lots of fun!

Everyone is giving their best pirate scowl.

No photo session is complete without the requisite "funny face" picture!

Circus Smirkus

The Circus has come to UMS and we are super excited!  We started our morning with a whole school assembly where we learned the secret circus rules and we watch Miss Nettie and Mr. Josh do some amazing tricks.  We then had the opportunity to practice balancing feathers with Miss. Nettie. Remember that we will end our circus experience with a whole school performance at Colchester High Scholl on Friday, March18, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  More information will come home soon. (I apologize for the blurry action photos.... I'm going to blame my one eye!)
